About us

The Dolphins Practice has been a general medical practice serving the inhabitants of Haywards Heath and the surrounding villages since about 1910. The original practice premises were in Dolphins on Muster Green in Haywards Heath. The practice moved to the Haywards Heath Health Centre in Heath Road in November 1981.

We have now moved to a purpose built state-of-the-art building at the old Haywards Heath hospital site opposite Beech Hurst Gardens.

The practice has a long history of commitment to the locality.  The practice takes an active interest in all areas of Medicine.  There is a strong commitment to maternity care, child care and good health for all our patients.

The practice is used to working very closely with consultant colleagues in the Princess Royal Hospital and Brighton Hospitals to manage the more complex aspects of patients’ diseases, illnesses and disabilities. They regularly meet with local District Nurses, Health Visitors and Midwives.

The practice is aware of the potential health risks of social deprivation and carefully works with other local agencies such as the local housing trusts and social services to improve and care for the health of patients. The practice has always cared for a number of local nursing homes, residential homes and warden assisted homes.

The practice area is in a 4 mile radius of the current practice premises. This normally means all of postcode RH16 and parts of RH15 and RH17 postcodes. Please ask the receptionists for more details if you are in doubt.

The practice recognises the need to keep up to date technology to improve patients’ health. Dolphins practice has been computerised since June 1989. The latest computers in the practice enable email contacts, repeat prescription systems, and physician support software to improve the safety of our patients.

The practice is closely allied to the NHS and its principles of free care at point of access for all patients. The normal NHS services are all provided free.

The practice also operates an advanced access health care appointment system, which enables patients to have an appointment on the day they phone in. The Practice recognises that some patients need to book appointments in advance and reserves pre-bookable appointments for commuters and others with special time needs. Dolphins Practice has pioneered nurse practitioners and registrar training.

The practice does constantly strive to improve. We regularly question our patients to review how we can adapt the service we offer to their needs. The usual concern is about car parking which has improved since our move, we now have 50 car parking spaces allocated for Dolphins Patients.
