Training
We are proud to be a long-established training practice. As part of our teaching commitment, doctors from other practices occasionally visit the Practice to assess the standard of our records and the care given. If you object to your notes being made available for this purpose please let us know.
Additionally, doctors occasionally video their consultations to assess and improve their skills. If you object to your consultation being recorded please let us know. As you would expect, the normal strict rules of confidentiality apply to these processes.
GP Registrar training
GP Registrars are attached to the practice for one year as part of the Vocational Training Scheme. They are a FULLY QUALIFIED DOCTOR having already completed at least three years of hospital training who will join us for one year to complete their specialist GP Training.
Dr Philip Dawson is a GP trainer and is currently responsible for GP registrar training.
Foundation programme doctor training
Foundation programme doctors are attached to the practice for four months as part of the foundation programme. The foundation programme is a two year training rotation for junior doctors which follows medical school. It is now recognised that general practice can provide useful training for ALL young doctors. So these doctors are FULLY QUALIFIED and will usually have completed at least one year of hospital training before coming to us. They are not training to be GPs but attached to learn general skills and to gain a greater understanding of the practice of medicine in different settings. Dr Stephan Quentin is currently responsible for Foundation Programme Doctor training, in the Practice.
Medical student teaching
We are joined by medical students from Brighton Medical School University. They will sit in on surgeries, accompany doctors and nurses on visits and may see some patients on their own briefly before being joined by the supervising professional. You will be informed if a medical student is present and be given the opportunity to say if you do not wish them to be there when you see the doctor or nurse. Dr Nick Arundale and Dr Howard Jones are currently responsible for medical student training in the practice.
Continued professional development
We are all committed not only to help train new health care professions, but to continue the development of our own knowledge and skills. To that end, we regularly have clinical and whole-team meetings for education as well as to cover business and administration matters.
