Practice Staff - Our Doctors

GP Partners

Dolphins Practice has 6 GP Partners - Dr Nick Arundale, Dr Susan Brumwell, Dr Philip Dawson, Dr Jonathan Harrison, Dr Howard Jones and Dr Anna Bullock The partners are joined by a salaried GP - Dr Kate Fletcher. As a training practice we often also have a GP Registrar and a Foundation programme Doctor working with us.

GP Registrar

A GP Registrar are FULLY QUALIFIED DOCTORS having already completed at several years of hospital training who may join us for an attachment of several months between hospital jobs before joining us for a final year to complete their specialist GP training.

Foundation Programme Doctor

As a training practice, we are sometimes joined by foundation programme doctors for four months. He or she is a a FULLY QUALIFIED DOCTOR having usually completed at least one year of hospital training. Foundation doctors are not training to be GPs but attached as part of their junior doctor training. They join us to learn general skills and gain a greater understanding of the practice of medicine in different settings.

Doctor Nick Arundale

GP Partner

Dr Nick Arundale - MBBCh, DRCOG, DGM, MRCGP

Born and bred in Sussex, Doctor Nick Arundale qualified in Wales and joined the practice in 1988. 

He treasures the continuing care aspect of family medicine, and both the variety and trust that it brings. Dr Arundale's particular medical interests are in child health and minor surgery in the practice. 

Dr Arundale is also the lead GP for the Kleinwort Rehabilitation Centre and considers the care of the elderly as one of our important roles in the community.

As a strong advocate of General Practice, he teaches medical students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School. 

Dr Arundale lives locally and has a busy family life; relaxation coming from squash, badminton and cycling, culminating in the annual London to Brighton bike ride, to help raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Doctor Susan Brumwell

GP Partner

Dr Susan Brumwell - MBBS, MRCGP, DRCOG.

Doctor Sue Brumwell graduated from Medical School in Manchester in 1987 and joined the Dolphins Practice as a Partner in 1999. She enjoys all aspects of General Practice but has a special interest in Women’s Health and Contraception.

Having moved to Haywards Heath in 1976 and attended Oathall Community College and Haywards Heath Sixth Form, Dr Brumwell now lives in Hove, is married with a Son and Daughter.

Dr Brumwell is passionate about running and has run 10 marathons to date, including London to Brighton. She also enjoys gentle sailing with her family.

Doctor Philip Dawson

GP Partner

Dr Philip Dawson - MBBS, DRCOG, FRCGP, AKC

Doctor Philip Dawson qualified from Kings College Hospital in London 1977 and joined the Dolphins Practice in October 1981.  He is married to Dr Margaret Voyce who is a Dermatologist in the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust.

During his time in the Practice he has also worked as a Police Surgeon, Hospice Medical Director and GP educator and has been involved in Regional Primary Care research projects and peer appraisal.

Dr Dawson is currently responsible for specialist training in General Practice, he also peer reviews and appraises other local GP’s in Mid Sussex and Brighton.

He has 3 grown up children who have followed various careers ranging  from medicine to banking to Laser Sailing.

Dr Dawson was nominated and elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1999 following  an international education fellowship when he lectured at the Philippine Family Practitioner annual conference in Manila.

He wishes he could play the saxophone better.

Doctor Jonathan Harrison

GP Partner

Dr Jonathan Harrison - MBBS

Dr Harrison trained initially as a surgeon in the English Riviera before moving to Sussex to become a GP.

He has been with the practice since 2008 where he started as a registrar before becoming a partner in September 2010.

Dr Harrison is married and tries to relax by cycling and cooking. His particular interests are in muscle and joint problems and ear nose and throat medicine and he is also interested in the use of computers in General Practice.

Doctor Howard Jones

GP Partner

Dr Howard Jones - MBBS, DRCOG, MRCGP

Having trained at Kings College Medical School London, Doctor Howard Jones joined the Dolphins Practice in 1985, as a full time partner.

Dr Jones is involved in medical student training and undertakes minor surgery in the practice. He also has a special interest in the treatment of respiratory conditions.

He has four children who have mainly flown the nest. Outside of work he relaxes by playing tennis and badminton and by doing a spot of armchair gardening.

Doctor Anna Bullock

GP Partner

Dr Anna Bullock

Dr Anna Bullock who lives locally, qualified in Sheffield, in 2001 and worked in hospitals in various parts of the UK and in New Zealand before choosing to make a career in General Practice and settle in leafy Sussex, with her husband Steve.

She has a special interest in women’s health/family planning, cardiovascular health and dermatology. She is a keen skier and snowboarder, and enjoys choral singing.

 

Doctor Kate Fletcher, Dolphins Practice, Haywards Heath

Salaried GP

Dr Kate Fletcher - MBBS, BPHARM, MRCGP

After initially training and working as a pharmacist Doctor Kate Fletcher changed her mind and decided to return to University and study medicine. In 2000, after 10 years combined of being a student, she qualified from the Royal Free Hospital in London and started working as a Doctor, much to her Parents relief! Dr Fletcher then undertook her GP training in Nottingham and qualified in 2004.

After getting married to Dave they decided to move back down south to be closer to friends and family and settled in the Mid Sussex area due to the wonderful countryside, as they both enjoy walking. In 2007 Dr Fletcher started working at Dolphins Practice as a salaried GP.

In 2010 they became parents and life as they knew it ended! Charlotte is now 17 months old and a typical toddler full of mischief and smiles which make every day at home a delightful challenge and most days at work a breeze in comparison!

Timetable of usual working days for each doctor

The following table of usual working days is for guidance only. GPs may be absent due to holiday or training or may be unavailable for general practice appointments if they are running specialist clinics.
